As inspired by reading another thread :D

Ok, 'serious' authors - In first place - John Milton, purely for Paradise Lost "to disenthrone the king of Heaven we war if war be best" (remembered for 2nd year exams and never forgotten) Satan is the hero, and has all the best lines lol, then it has to be the great Will Shakespeare, absolutely love venus and adonis, romeo and juliet

John dryden - Absalom and Achitophel, FANTASTIC!

Marlowe - Faustus

Non 'serious' authors - Tolkien - obviously :woohoo:terry goodkind and terry pratchett

i will add to this, my list of favourite authors grows daily lol

My all time, absolute, hands down favourite is Dylan Thomas. OK - I know he qualifies in most peoples books as a poet, but his short stories are really something. My personal favourites are 'Jarleys' and 'The Peaches'. I love the descriptions, when I read his works I can really imagine myself in the place he is writing about.

I also love Tolkien - everything from the Silmarillion, The Hobbit,  the LOTR trilogy right down to The Father Christmas Letters, which are wonderful.

I am a pretty avid reader and will read most things. The only author I really cannot stand is Catherine Cookson. Little rubber-stamped volumes all of them....

I couldn't ever admit to one favourite.

When in my teens it was Victoria Holt - romantic mysteries set in Cornwall.

I've been a fan of James Patterson but now find that one book isn't necessarily as good as the next so I don't really bother now.

Harold Robbins was my favourite author for so many years, naughty, sexy and educational ;)  in fact - both names of my girls (Lauren and Lana) were taken from books penned by himself - I know Lauren was from 'Goodbye Janette' but can't remember the title of the book Lana's was taken from - I'll find out quickesh though, my MIL borrowed both books and never returned them..

Minette Walters held my attention for a few years - her early work was good.

Tolkien is to thank for times spent in my bedroom when I was very young, unputdownable is an understatement.  I'd buy sweeties and loved going to bed early to read his works :)

The first book that really grabbed my emotions when older was 'The Thorn Birds - written by Colleen McCullough' - it was made into a mini series and starred Richard Chamberlain and Rachael Ward, probably not one for the blokes but at the time it was a masterpiece - a challenge for Catholicism which I was heavily into at that period in time.

I forgot to mention Charles Dickens - how could I :shock2:

My thanks to him for so many pleasurable reading hours when very young, Shakespeare I could giveth or taketh but Dickens was the master imo :)
