I've told all family and friends of my intention and after i've been to Barcelona, i'll be seriously attempting to quit smoking - with all the help the NHS have to offer. I've tried before, sadly without any success but seeing my mum on oxygen due to heart problems, it's made me think that i'd rather never allow my children to see me that way. I have plans in place, mainly keeping as busy as possible and that shouldn't be too hard - also my house and surrounding areas will be declared a 'smoke free zone'. This thread will be dedicated to swearing, kicking, moaning and all other side effects i may suffer - also, to keep an update as to how i'm doing. It's also for any friends who'd like to join in  Not hard to guess who, i only have two people in my life that smoke

Thanks Chris, tbh i've never been quite so serious about quitting as i am now - it's always been an enjoyable pleasure for me and i feel fitter than i've felt for years. However, i do realise that the fitness won't last forever as long as i'm smoking so anytime after 22nd September, i'll be in here gagging for a puff

My willpower will be tested more ways than one during this period. Lana will be going to work in France mid October, something i'm dreading and i know it'll be a very emotional time. Also, i've been told that i need more eye laser surgery. The surgery itself doesn't bother me because it's pain free, however after surgery i'll not be allowed to decorate or do anything dusty and something i'd planned on was keeping really busy  I'll also not be allowed ot use pc for months  Still, i'm determined to kick the habit - i'll be phoning NHS before my trip to Barcelona but have decided to allow my body to get used to normal lifestyle after so will delay quitting by one week.

I'm so proud to boast that my status is now that of a non smoker  Only three weeks and it's not easy but i've figured that it doesn't involve any pain, just willpower which isn't that difficult to overcome with the right frame of grown up mind.

Thanks Chris. I had doctors appointment yesterday about this very subject - she keep trying to point out how well i've done and how proud i should feel but I don't feel i merit such attention or praise tbh - i'm only seeing her to ensure i get the right level of medication for the first couple of months. A friend of my daughter has an 18th month old baby who has Leukemia, he suffers so much pain - i'm quitting a habit, not fighting for my life.

I have to say, this last week has been my most difficult and i'd have mugged an old person for a fag (possibly because of home circumstances). However, my first thought in the mornings is no longer to have a cigarette (possibly because i've noticed that smokers smell of sewerage, sorry but it's true  no matter what they try to cover the stench with) Some kindly person bought me a new kitchen tv as a reward for quitting - it seemed to be a waste as the one i had worked efficiently so i had permission to swap it for something of equivalent value. I'm now the proud owner of a Nintendo Wii I'm not sure how often i'll use it but it's a sports package (board included) and something for the whole family. I'm hoping to get a game that's Mario and Sonic related though - then i'll be in seventh heaven

ok, so i've now become a Wii Fitness addict but can anyone tell me how, after a 30min vigerous workout i've managed to put on 3lb and increase my body mass?

My 30min vigorous workout was due to a mixture of chocolate (one stolen easter egg) and liquorice allsorts, i'll admit that  but when i did the same workout yesterday, i'd lost body mass and weight.If it's true what you're saying though Chris, i feel so much better
